Cachin said the 13 works were confiscated from four prominent Right Bank galleries owned by Arnold Seligmann, Jacques Seligmann, Andre Seligmann and Jacques Bacri. he Seligmann galleries were distinct commercial enterprises run by cousins. Arnold’s son, Jean-Arnold Seligmann, was executed by the Nazis in 1941 for his actions in the French Resistance. Andre Seligmann died in 1945 shortly after returning from exile in the United States. Cachin said the restitutions were made possible by unpublished wartime documents recently unearthed in the archives of the Paris police.
