  • A total of 20 art works have been returned to their rightful owners or heirs since 1994, when France began to confront the systematic persecution of Jews during World War II and the seizure of their assets.Cachin said the 13 works were confiscated from four prominent Right Bank galleries owned by Arnold Seligmann, Jacques Seligmann, Andre Seligmann and Jacques Bacri. The Seligmann galleries were distinct commercial enterprises run by cousins. Arnold’s son, Jean-Arnold Seligmann, was executed by the Nazis in 1941 for his actions in the French Resistance. Andre Seligmann died in 1945 shortly after returning from exile in the United States.
