| - Le tableau est acheté directement à Paul Cézanne 200 F par Ambroise Vollard, Paris ; il est encore chez ce dernier en 1939, car il lui est rendu à la suite de l'exposition de Londres en 1939 (1). Après la mort d'Ambroise Vollard le 22 juillet 1939, le tableau est vendu par son héritière Mme de Galea (ou Gallea) à Martin Fabiani, au début de la guerre. Le tableau est alors acheté par Elisabeth Pertl, maîtresse du SS Hermann Brandel [ou Brandl], chef de l'organisation nazie « Otto ». Pour cacher le tableau, elle le confie à Martin Reichenwallner, Kölblöd (Bavière), chez lequel l’œuvre est retrouvée en 1949 (2).
